Danny Ings’ Southampton goal scoring may offer Liverpool future

Southampton’s Danny Ings shone in Fantasy Premier League gameweek 17 against Arsenal. The on-loan Liverpool striker scored twice in just 70 minutes of action. Ings tallied 13 FPL points as he registered his fifth and sixth goals of the season. Now under manager Ralph Hasenhuettl, Ings and Southampton are ready to crack on for Premier League survival.

Danny Ings goal machine

Danny Ings continues to be Southampton’s main goal threat. The striker missed four consecutive gameweeks with an injury before unloading on the Gunners in Hasenhuettl’s new-look attack. It was Ings’ best gameweek performance of the season, topping his previous high of eight points in gameweek 4 against Crystal Palace.

The striker now has 57 points in FPL. It isn’t a fantasy football barnstorming figure, but Ings’ injury issues and Southampton’s form have prevented him from scoring regularly.

Southampton are now out of the relegation zone and could move up the table into Premier League safety.

Does Danny Ings have a Liverpool future?

Ings leads Southampton in FPL points with 57 as well as Premier League goals with six. The on-loan Liverpool man has scored 38 percent of Southampton’s goals this term.

Many Southampton and Liverpool supporters will wonder if Ings has a future at Anfield. With his current play, there is a chance. But injuries and his inability to stay fit for long periods could see Liverpool look elsewhere. It would open up a permanent chance to stay at Southampton.

Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge is in the final year of his contract, therefore, the Reds could allow him to leave on a free transfer. Sturridge’s exit could lead the Reds to bring Ings back.

Danny Ings upcoming fixtures

Ings costs just £5.4 million in FPL and during gameweek 17, just 164,080 managers selected him. The striker hasn’t played a full 90 minutes since gameweek 10, so managers may be put off by transferring him in.

Southampton play Huddersfield and West Ham in their next two fixtures. The Saints can beat Huddersfield with Ings playing a major role. The West Ham game will be trickier, but it will be played at St. Mary’s.

FPL managers shouldn’t be put off by selecting Ings for gameweek 18. The striker is in fine form and against a bad Huddersfield defence, he could find the back of the net once more.
