Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero struggling to make Premier League impact

Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero is struggling to make a Premier League impact. Having missed four straight matches with an injury, Aguero has found form difficult to find since returning. Aguero managed just 40 minutes in the Cityzens’ loss to Crystal Palace in gameweek 18. He followed up the subpar performance with an assist in 90 minutes of action against Leicester City. Despite the assist, Aguero is struggling for consistent fantasy form.

Aguero has tallied 87 Fantasy Premier League points. The forward costs £11.2 million, which is a dip from his season high of £11.5m from gameweek 14.

Aguero has scored eight goals and tallied seven assists this term. He hasn’t scored since gameweek 12, however. The Argentine has struggled recently, but this season he has averaged a goal or an assist every 72.3 Premier League minutes.

It is a fantastic return for FPL managers. Unfortunately, Aguero’s playing time hasn’t been extensive in recent gameweeks.

Aguero has scored double-digit points twice this season. In fact, 33 of his 87 points came in just two matches. Since scoring 13 points against Southampton, Aguero has averaged 3.5 FPL points per game.

Only four times this season has Aguero played a full 90 minutes in the Premier League. Manager Pep Guardiola has chosen to preserve the forward.

Since 2014-15, when Aguero scored 216 points, his FPL totals have regressed. His last three seasons saw returns of 184, 175, and 169. With half the season played and Aguero’s injury history and form, it is believed he could end the season with fewer points than last term.

If Aguero continues with his 3.5 points per game average for the second part of the season, Aguero would just record a further 67 points. The Manchester City forward would finish the year with a total of 154.

Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero will dictate just how the team does for the rest of the year. FPL managers continue to add Aguero to their teams as he could catch form anytime. But dropping the forward for gameweek 20 may be the right thing to do.
