Wolverhampton Wanderers supporters may have been disappointed in the club’s summer loan signing of striker Raul Jimenez. The Mexican international had scored just 31 goals in four seasons after arriving from Club American in Liga MX.
But Jimenez has found a home under manager Nuno Espirito Santo at Molineaux. The manager’s confidence in Jimenez has brought out a capable goalscorer that has now set a new single-season record for his league goals in Europe.
Raul Jimenez – An undervalued signing
Jimenez’s previous European career best in goals during a league season came in 2016-17 at Benfica. That season saw him score seven goals 19 games.
This season has already seen the Mexican international fire in eight goals in 24 games. He has scored one goal every 244 minutes of play.
Jimenez has added seven assists. In total, he has had a hand in half of Wolves’ 30 Premier League goals.
The striker leads Wolves in goals with five-goal man Diogo Jota just behind him. To add to Jimenez’s great season, he has scored two goals in two FA Cup matches this term.
Raul Jimenez – FPL star
Jimenez is a Fantasy Premier League star. He has now tallied 113 points thanks to a brilliant 12-point haul against West Ham on Tuesday night.
The striker averaged 8.5 points in his last two gameweeks. In 13 of the 24 gameweeks this term, Jimenez has recorded five or more points.
Remarkably, Jimenez is a bargain for any FPL manager looking for points. The striker costs just £6.5 million and only 1,521,344 FPL managers selected him for gameweek 24. Both figures are bound to go up.
Wolves next five matches are winnable and see them take on Everton, Newcastle, Bournemouth, Huddersfield, and Cardiff.
Santo’s team must also play Shrewsbury in a FA Cup fourth-round replay on February 5th.
In December, it was reported Wolves want to make Jimenez’s deal permanent. It will take around £30m to make the transfer. Wolves are not short of cash and a solid Premier League finish will only add more money to the war chest.
FPL managers looking for consistent points should add Raul Jimenez for gameweek 25. Wolves’ upcoming games and Jimenez’s great form make him an optimal signing.
