Solskjaer has watched his side lose to Arsenal in the Premier League and Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup quarterfinals. Now, with Manchester United suffering back to back defeats and headed towards a big showdown with Barcelona in the Champions League, some believe the club’s board could be reconsidering permanently appointing Solskjaer as manager.

Is Manchester United reconsidering the permanent appointment of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer?

Manchester United reeled off 12 matches without defeat in the Premier League following Solskjaer’s appointment as caretaker boss. The team’s improved performance under the Norwegian left many to believe he deserves the job full-time.

Solskjaer has endured just three losses as Manchester United boss. Although the way in which the Red Devils lost those fixtures being heavily outplayed was worrying.

The Norwegian is still leading sportsbooks’ favourite to be handed the permanent manager’s role. However, there is still the possibility Manchester United will attempt to lure another coach into the Old Trafford hot seat.

Who could replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer?

Manchester United’s interest in Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is no secret. The Argentine has succeeded at Spurs with little to no transfer funds. Despite being unable to spend money on transfers, Pochettino has created a team capable of challenging for trophies.

Pochettino continues to express his happiness at Tottenham. However, rumours have claimed he regretted signing a 2018 contract extension to remain at the club.

Real Madrid are also highly interested in the Argentine. But Los Blancos re-appointed Zinedine Zidane as manager.

Zidane’s return to the Santiago Bernabeu should prevent Pochettino’s appointment at the Spanish club. It should also keep the Frenchman from joining Manchester United.

The Telegraph claims Pochettino is Manchester United’s best option despite Solskjaer’s success. Many supporters will argue with that claim. However, more losses under the Norwegian could see the club go in a different direction for next term.
