What is James Milner’s Liverpool contract situation?

Transfermarkt, a trusted website that specialises in contract information for football players, lists Milner’s current Liverpool contract set to expire in June 2019.

It is believed Milner can walk away from Anfield for free in the summer. Liverpool have not shown re-signing Milner to be a priority, which has confused supporters due to the midfielder’s excellent season.

The 33-year-old has appeared in 34 matches in all competitions tallying six goals and seven assists.

Milner recently scored in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Fulham from the penalty spot. According to 90 Min, Milner has never been on a losing side when scoring a goal in a Premier League game.

Milner has scored in 51 games while his teams have won 40 matches, drawn 11, and lost zero times.

Confusion over James Milner’s Liverpool contract

According to a recent article, Milner’s Liverpool contract will not run out until the summer of 2020. That is why the club has not been in a rush to re-sign him.

There have been rumours Milner could return to Leeds United on a free transfer for next term if they are promoted to the Premier League. However, based on information from the Express, that won’t happen.

The newspaper cited Liverpool correspondent James Pearce, who in September 2018, stated that Milner’s Liverpool contract doesn’t end until 2020.

Due to the contract having another year to run, Liverpool are not interested in working out a new deal currently.

Milner will be 34 in the summer of 2020. Despite being a major part of Liverpool’s squad since arriving on a free transfer from Manchester City, he could look to finish his career elsewhere.

Who is leaving Liverpool in the summer?

While Milner looks set to stay at the moment, the duo of Daniel Sturridge and Alberto Moreno do not.

Moreno has been negotiating a pre-contract with Lazio. There, he would join former Reds, Lucas Leiva and Luis Alberto.

Moreno has appeared in just five matches for Liverpool this term. His last appearance came in Liverpool’s third round FA Cup loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers in January.
