Tottenham Hotspur have still not made a summer transfer signing, but that hasn’t stopped the club from being linked to a host of players, including Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez.
According to reports out of London, the club are interested in buying want away Leicester playmaker Mahrez. However, Spurs are unwilling to pay the proposed £50 million fee for the midfielder. The Algerian made his mark on the Premier League in 2015-16 as he helped lead Leicester to the Premier League title by scoring a career high 17 goals and tallying 11 assists. Last season was a return to the norm for Mahrez, however, as he tallied just six league goals and three assists.
Spurs would like to sign the Algerian international, but won’t do so until Leicester lower their asking price. However, Arsenal could hijack any chances of their North London rivals signing Mahrez with a bid of their own. Like Spurs, Arsenal are reportedly put off by the price of the player.
Leicester have been stubborn with their asking price for Mahrez, whose contract runs until 2020. Serie A side Roma have already made a bid for the attacker which was immediately rejected by Leicester. According to Sky Sports News, Roma are so far the only team to make a concrete bid for the player.
