Manchester United sign 15-year-old rising star Charlie McCann

Manchester United have signed 15-year-old Coventry rising star Charlie McCann after the youngster impressed manager Jose Mourinho and the club’s scouts.

Manchester United have beaten out Manchester City to sign the highly rated teen who recently made his England under-16 debut.

McCann has come through the Coventry academy, and despite not wanting to let the 15-year-old go, the team have agreed to let him join the Red Devils. McCann joined Coventry’s academy at the age of seven and has been a top prospect for some time. Rich Stevens, head of Coventry’s academy, spoke about the youngster’s move to Old Trafford.

“When a big football club come knocking, and it is the club that Charlie supports, you must let him go and have that experience,” Stevens said.

“We did not want to sell him, we did not need a fee for him even though there was a fee involved.

“Charlie goes with complete support from me and the rest of the staff from the Academy.

“He has been unbelievable for us, even making his England debut back in August.

“We will keep an eye on him and be here if he needs us. His parents told me that if it would have been any other club it would have been a firm no.

“But when it is the club that Charlie supports, that is football. Charlie goes with our full support.”

Recently, Manchester United have been snatching up young players for their academy. The club have signed Arnau Puigmal, Aliou Badara Traore and Ethan Galbraith over the last few months. Puigmal is perhaps the most intriguing signing of the four as the player was in Spanish side Espanyol’s academy before signing with the Red Devils. He was touted as the club’s brightest academy star.

Manchester United are being continually linked with further signings for the January transfer window as Mourinho plays on four fronts this term.
