Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial have been left out of Manchester United’s starting XI for tonight’s Champions League last-16 first leg match against Sevilla. Jose Mourinho has left Pogba and Martial both out amid strong speculation that the manager is not seeing eye to eye with either player.
Although there is no place for Pogba and Martial, Alexis Sanchez will start on the left side of Manchester United’s front three. He will play along side Romelu Lukaku and Juan Mata will play down the right.
The biggest surprise of Manchester United’s starting XI is the inclusion of midfielder Scott McTominay. The 21-year-old has been labelled Mourinho’s trick.
Pogba’s exclusion from the team’s starting XI comes after being left out of Mourinho’s team against Huddersfield last weekend. The midfielder was left out due to illness, according to reports. However, it came on the heels of Pogba being substituted against Newcastle during the Red Devils’ shock loss to the Magpies.
Pogba has been linked to Real Madrid in recent days. A lot of speculation around his possible move stems from Mourinho playing him in a more defensive role.
Should Pogba and Martial start on the bench for Manchester United? Has Mourinho got it wrong in Sevilla?
