Liverpool’s Adam Lallana suffered a fresh injury on Saturday against Crystal Palace. So far, the extent of the injury is unknown, but it could keep the midfielder out for the rest of the season.
Liverpool’s Adam Lallana suffers fresh injury
Lallana was a second half substitute for Jurgen Klopp in the Reds’ fixture against Crystal Palace. However, the often injured player was forced off after just three minutes.
Lallana has missed nearly all of the season already. He suffered a thigh injury during preseason and spent around five months recovering from it.
It is believed Lallana pulled a leg muscle stretching for a ball as Liverpool chased the game.
Lallana did play as a second second half substitute for England in the team’s 1-1 draw against Italy during the week. The player was hoping to make one final push for the England World Cup squad. However, it looks like those hopes could have evaporated with his latest setback. Depending on the severity of the injury, which could be a re-aggravation of his previous thigh problem, Lallana could miss the remainder of the season.
The midfielder isn’t the only Reds’ player on the injury list currently. Jurgen Klopp confirmed defender Joe Gomez will miss a number of upcoming games. Gomez suffered an injury in England’s international friendly against the Netherlands. Gomez is expected to see game time before the end of the season.
“After the initial shock, we got the best news we could get,” Klopp said in an interview with Liverpool’s official website.
“At the moment, it’s serious – and serious enough to rule him out for the next couple of games. But I think we will see Joe back on the pitch this season, I’m pretty sure, how it looks at the moment.
“He feels much better already but of course we need to be careful. I don’t know exactly how long but we hopefully have a lot of games to come and he will be part of a few.”
