Tottenham and defender Toby Alderweireld look likely to part ways in the offseason. According to Football.London, the situation between the two sides is unlikely to improve; and the Belgian will most like head to the Spurs’ exit.
What’s wrong with defender Toby Alderweireld?
Alderweireld’s circumstances at Tottenham are being compared to Kyle Walker’s last offseason. Spurs have reportedly offered Alderweireld £130,000-a-week, and are unwilling to go any higher. The defender’s agent wants his man to get a significant increase. It is believed Alderweireld’s representative wants around £180,000-per-week.
While Alderweireld is a world-class defender and wanted by numerous clubs around Europe, injuries have kept him on the sidelines this term. It is claimed that Tottenham are not worried about being forced to sell Alderweireld, if he does not take the club’s new offer.
Due to Davinson Sanchez’s performances this season – he arrived from Ajax during the previous offseason – Alderweireld maybe allowed to leave.
Alderweireld’s current contract will expire in 2019. Manchester City have been linked with the defender and could approach Spurs much like they did when Walker was made available.
Tottenham bought Alderweireld from Atletico Madrid for £14.4 million in 2015. The defender is reportedly valued at £36m currently.
Tottenham may be ready to cash-in on Alderweireld, and Spurs’ fans are mixed on whether he should stay or go.
The only slight blemish on yesterday was the lack of Toby Alderweireld in the match-day squad.
I don’t believe he deserves to come back in to the starting XI but it’s a shame for all concerned that he wasn’t even on the bench #THFC #COYS

For those raising the argument about how #THFC can supposedly pay the wage demands of Dembele and not Alderweireld:
Number of PL appearances in last 2 seasons:
Mousa Dembele who is supposedly injury prone: 53
Toby Alderweireld: 40
Toby also wants near double the wages#COYS

With all the talk pre-match about Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez has again been excellent so far in a big match for Spurs. Still just 21-years-old.

One of the saddest facts relating to Spurs is that since Toby Alderweireld has been out team has maintained form & only side unbeaten in League during 2018. As much as we all want him back we've proved we can do without him. #COYS #THFC
