Liverpool defeat Manchester United
The Reds got off to a great start thanks to a Sadio Mane penalty in the 28th minute. Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah was clumsily fouled by Demitri Mitchell in the area resulting in the penalty.
Manchester United’s Andreas Pereira leveled the match in the 31st minute. However, Liverpool ran rampant in the second period scoring three goals without reply.
Daniel Sturridge scored Liverpool’s second thanks to an assist by Xherdan Shaqiri. Sheyi Ojo tallied a third from the penalty spot before Shaqiri’s sublime overhead kick sealed Liverpool’s 4-1 win.
Klopp praises Shaqiri goal
Following the match, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp praised Shaqiri’s stunning goal.
“It was good, obviously. That’s not normal after four days at the club,” Klopp said. “He adapted that well to the style of play. We wanted to help him a little bit with a position that was not too complicated and gave him a lot of freedom offensively, playing naturally plus offering runs in behind, which we did, especially around the first goal in the second half.”

Mourinho's presser after Utd's loss to Liverpool is quite confusing.

Mou’s desire to create conflict has served him well in the past but he’s in real danger of having nothing to play for by October the way he’s publicly kicking that squad. Losing to Liverpool preseason means nothing, being told you’re not good enough collectively for weeks does.

Robbie Fowler post-match on the crowd of 101,000: It was interesting that post-match Man United walked straight down the tunnel, while the Liverpool players went around to the crowd.

Supporters on both sides have reacted to the match in different ways. While a 4-1 win against Manchester United is always seen as a great result, Liverpool mustn’t get carried away. The win merely came in the preseason and the result, though a confidence-building win, has no effect on the Premier League table.
Liverpool now head to Dublin, Ireland to play Serie A’s Napoli on August 4. The club will finish its preseason on August 7 against Torino at Anfield.
Manchester United will play Real Madrid on July 31 before playing Bayern Munich on August 5.
