James Milner has started the 2018-19 Fantasy Premier League season in fine form. The Liverpool ‘do everything player’ has recorded 17 points from two gameweeks. His 11 point output in gameweek 2 put him in the FPL team of the week. It may not have been expected at the start of the Premier League season, but Milner has been impressive so far.
James Milner starring in FPL
FPL managers can be forgiven for thinking Liverpool’s transfer window purchases would keep Milner out of the starting XI. However, Milner’s hard work hasn’t gone unnoticed and Jurgen Klopp has been forced to select the midfielder. It has helped Milner’s cause that Jordan Henderson came back late from the World Cup and new signing Fabinho hasn’t made his Liverpool debut yet.
Last season saw Milner take a step backwards in FPL points. He scored just 77, which was 62 fewer than the previous Premier League campaign. Milner could still have a down year, despite his early success. Liverpool have a deep midfield that is envied by every Premier League club including Manchester City.
Can James Milner continue his FPL form?
While Milner scored 11 points against Crystal Palace, he was removed on 66 minutes. It could be a sign of things to come for the veteran midfielder. FPL managers may see more of Jordan Henderson playing in midfield than Milner as the two offer completely different attributes. Milner could be used more in the coming weeks for the EFL Cup. Once the Reds begin their EFL Cup games and the Champions League, Liverpool’s squad will be stretched. However, Liverpool do finally have the squad to deal with the number of games they will face this term.
Milner is currently third in FPL scoring for Liverpool. The midfielder is behind teammates Sadio Mane, Andrew Robertson, and tied with Mohamed Salah. His price of £5.5 million is far less than the players in front of him. Milner offers value for price, but his time in the Liverpool starting XI may be numbered.
Liverpool have a generous schedule over the next two fixtures. Brighton and Leicester are up next, and Milner could play a big part for Liverpool.
