Fantasy Premier League managers can be forgiven for being shocked with the latest developments at Arsenal. The club has sold two of its forwards in the last two transfer windows in Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and now Theo Walcott. There is more to come, however. Alexis Sanchez is destine to join Manchester United before the end of the month, and FPL managers could see the Chilean either feast or famine under Jose Mourinho.
Theo Walcott
It is safe to say FPL managers won’t miss Theo Walcott now that he has moved to Everton. To be fair, Walcott could suddenly catch fire and be one of the top forwards to add in the season’s second half. Walcott has scored a mere six points in FPL thus far. This time last term, Walcott was a player in demand after a great first half to the year. Unfortunately, he hasn’t been able to do it in fantasy football, although that has been down to his mere four appearances this term. All of which came as a substitute.
Alexis Sanchez
But Walcott’s departure is a worrying trend that looks set to continue for Arsenal. Sanchez is Arsenal’s highest scoring FPL player. The Chilean has tallied 97 points. Last year, he was the man in FPL, and it isn’t a stretch to say he has been the biggest disappointment in 2017-18. Sanchez is 82 points off of top scorer Mohamed Salah, and a move to Manchester United is on the horizon. There is no guarantee whatsoever that Sanchez can regain last season’s fantasy form at Old Trafford. Mourinho’s tactics don’t necessarily favour a player like Sanchez, currently.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan
The good news is Arsenal could obtain Henrikh Mkhitaryan as Sanchez’s replacement. The attacking midfielder is on the outs with Mourinho for whatever reason the manager can conjure up. Although Mkhitaryan only has 57 points this season, a move to the Emirates could be just what he needs to rediscover his great form. Mkhitaryan started the season well tallying 38 points in the first five Premier League games of the season. His form dipped after gameweek 5, but much of that had to do with Mourinho and the fact he would substitute Mkhitaryan early in matches.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
The best news for Arsenal fans and FPL managers is the possible arrival of Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at the Emirates. The Aubameyang deal isn’t done, nor is it that close just yet, but it could be game changer for the Gunners. Of course, Dortmund are ready to cash in on the Gabon international do to his increasingly poor behaviour. If he can stay on the pitch, FPL managers could have two great strikers in Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette to select each week.
Arsenal could completely revamp their strike force this transfer window. The revamp could help fantasy managers for the second half push.
