European giants look to hijack Draxler move to Arsenal

Paris St Germain’s German midfielder Julian Draxler has been touted to move to Arsenal, following the arrival of Neymar and the growing certainty that PSG are paving the way for the arrival of Kylian Mbappe.

However, Arsenal will be dismayed to hear that German giants Bayern Munich have entered the scene for Draxler, with boss Carlo Ancelotti seeing Draxler as a perfect addition to his squad, and offering a return home to Germany. Ancelotti is looking for more depth for a stronger Champions League campaign, after his side were ruthlessly dismantled by Real Madrid at the quarter final stage last season.

PSG are wanting ‘just’ £36.5 million for Draxler, which is of little consequence to Munich and – of course – they can offer him guaranteed Champions League football, something which Arsenal cannot do.

Other Premier League clubs are monitoring the situation also. Liverpool, Chelsea and, as always, Manchester United have been linked with the player – but with Liverpool seemingly winning the battle with Barcelona to keep Phillipe Coutinho, and Chelsea considering other options, Arsenal look to be in a direct battle with Bayern Munich for the services of Draxler.

Most of Arsenal’s summer has been very stop start on the transfer front. Although they landed Alexandre Lacazette, they have failed with bids for the likes of Thomas Lemar, and have spent a lot of time fending off strong approaches for Alexis Sanchez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – with neither situation truly settled. A stuttering start to the season hasn’t helped – an exciting but concerning with over Leicester followed by a disappointing loss to Stoke City means that Arsene Wenger is already under pressure this early in the season – delivering a marquee signing like Julian Draxler would certainly help remedy that.
