West Ham owners David Sullivan and David Gold will decide the fate of manager Slaven Bilic on Monday. West Ham have started the Premier League season woefully, and Bilic’s team sit 18th following a 4-1 loss to Liverpool on Saturday.
Slaven Bilic’s poor start
Bilic is expected to be shown the door after collecting just nine points from a possible 33. The Croatian has been under fire since the start of the season, but has been given time to right the ship. It is believed Sullivan and Gold wanted the manager to finish out his current contract, which expires in July, rather than replacing him mid-term. However, with West Ham now in a relegation battle, Bilic will be replaced.
Who’s next?
The Guardian reports Bilic’s replacement will be former Everton, Manchester United and Sunderland manager David Moyes. West Ham’s owners hope the international break will be a sufficient amount of time for Moyes to implement his tactics.
Fans have already reacted negatively to Moyes at West Ham on social media. It has also led to speculation that Sean Dyche is either not an option because he is staying at Burnley or due to taking another position.
Moyes last three managerial positions have been far from successful. Moyes was appointed as Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor at Manchester United, but lasted last than one season in the job. He later moved to Spain where he managed Real Sociedad. However, he was sacked after just one year in the job.
Moyes’ most recent position was with Sunderland. The team were relegated to the Championship in his one and only season with the club. During his time in charge of the Black Cats, Moyes lost 28 of 43 games.
Bilic will leave West Ham after having just over two seasons of mixed success. The team haven’t played well this term, despite West Ham paying considerable transfer fees and salaries to named players.
