Everton are gearing up for their Premier League fixture against West Ham on Wednesday night. Win, lose or draw, the club are ready to unveil Sam Allardyce as their new manager.
Allardyce will take charge of the team in the next 48 hours. He will oversee the team’s Saturday fixture against Huddersfield.
The former Crystal Palace boss will be joined at Goodison by his long-time friend and assistant Sammy Lee. Former Leicester City manager Craig Shakespeare will also join Everton’s coaching staff as one of Allardyce’s backroom coaches.
Current interim manager David Unsworth will resume his role as Everton’s under-23 coach. Allardyce had been linked with the job in early November, however, the initial discussions between the two sides ended. Everton were able to re-ignite talks with the manager over the job in the last few days.
Everton had been trying to tempt Watford boss Marco Silva to Merseyside, but the Toffees were ultimately unable to sign the Portuguese coach.
Everton are currently two points above the relegation zone going into Wednesday night’s match against West Ham. It is a massive six-pointer for both sides. A loss would see Everton sucked into the relegation zone. A win or draw would see the team keep their head just above the drop.
The Toffees were expected to perform well this term thanks to the amount of spending the club made during the offseason. However, the club started poorly in both the Premier League and the Europa League. The bad start cost Ronald Koeman his job on October 23.
Is Sam Allardyce the right man for the Everton job?
