5 Fantasy Defenders to Field Gameweek 13

premier league, fantasy football, fpl, fantasy sports

Gary Cahill leads all defenders going in to gameweek 13 of the Fantasy Premier League season. The Chelsea defender tallied 13 points during the weekend giving him a two point edge over Arsenal’s Laurent Koscielny and Cesar Azpilicueta.

Last time around, Azpilicueta was the only one of the three to get in the FantasySports.co.uk side. Who will make this week’s 5 fantasy defenders to field in gameweek 13?

Gary Cahill – Chelsea

Games: 12; Clean sheets: 7; Total FPL points: 58

Cahill returned eight points last week as Chelsea tallied their sixth straight clean sheet. The English defender has been in fine form, and has averaged 7.7 points per game over that span.

Despite two very difficult matches up next for Chelsea, Tottenham at home and Manchester City away, Cahill is certainly worth being selected based on recent performances for gameweek 13.

Laurent Koscielny – Arsenal

Games: 11; Clean sheets 4; Goals: 2; Total FPL points: 56

Koscielny’s last three fixtures have seen the centre-back average 1.7 points per match. However, Arsenal’s fixture list is easing up a bit after two back-to-back difficult fixtures.

Gameweek 13 will see the Gunners host Bournemouth before a trip to West Ham and Stoke visit the Emirates. If Koscielny is to return to FPL form, it will be in gameweek 13.

Gareth McAuley – West Brom Albion

Games: 12; Clean sheets: 3; Goals: 2: Total FPL points: 45

Last week, I sang the praises of West Brom Albion’s Gareth McAuley. The defender only backed me up and tallied six points over the weekend. That was more than Kyle Walker, Daley Blind and Jan Vertonghen, three far more favoured defenders in FPL.

The West Brom defender is still a bargain at £4.7 million, and with fixtures versus Hull and Watford to come, is a perfect addition to your FPL gameweek 13 team.

Joel Matip – Liverpool

Games: 10; Clean sheets: 2; Goals: 1; Total FPL points: 33

Joel Matip made our FPL defenders’ list a few weeks ago. The Liverpool man is averaging nearly five points a game. That may not sound like much, but he is only going to cost you £5.5m. Keep in mind, must points come from midfield scorers and strikers.

Liverpool have Sunderland up next, and despite the Black Cats’ back-to-back wins, expect their luck to run out in gameweek 13.

Marcos Alonso – Chelsea

Games: 7; Clean sheets: 6; Goals: 1; Total FPL points: 46

Marcos Alonso made our list for last week’s FPL defenders. He is in fantastic form and has helped Chelsea to six straight clean sheets.

The full-back has done better than expected under Antonio Conte, and despite Chelsea playing Tottenham at the weekend, there’s no reason Chelsea’s rugged defence can’t get a seventh clean sheet.

Alonso has averaged 7.5 points over his last six matches. A perfect reason for him to be in your gameweek 13 team.

Bonus goalkeeper:

Ben Foster – West Brom Albion

Games: 12; Clean sheets: 3; Total FPL points: 42

Third in points for goalkeepers, West Brom’s Ben Foster is coming off a clean sheet against Burnley. The goalkeeper has Hull up next. The Tigers have scored the fewest goals in the Premier League this season.

Watford will follow the next week, and both fixtures could see the West Brom shot-stopper keep two more clean sheets.

Tom Heaton has just given up four goals to West Brom and will face Manchester City next. Thibaut Courtois has Tottenham up in gameweek 13. So, why not add Foster to your FPL side?
