Simon Mignolet made amends for an early mistake in Liverpool’s English Premier League clash with Chelsea in gameweek 23, helping the Reds escape with a 1-1 draw.
Mignolet was caught out on David Luiz’s thunderous first half free-kick, which gave the Blues the lead. Unaware Luiz was ready to take the free-kick, Mignolet was left flat footed as the defender’s goal settled into Liverpool’s net.
The Reds, who were second best in the first half, started the second period much better. Jurgen Klopp’s men finally broke down Chelsea’s defence in the 56th minute when Giorgio Wijnaldum headed home just inside the penalty area.
Chelsea’s Diego Costa had the chance to win it for the Blues late on after Joel Matip took the Spaniard down in the box. Mignolet guessed correctly, however, diving to his right to make the save. Gameweek 23’s big English Premier League match ended 1-1, and the Blues are still nine points ahead of second place Tottenham.
