5 Dominant FPL Gameweek 27 Defenders

premier league, fantasy football, fpl, fantasy sports

Last week, FantasySports.co.uk hit the jackpot in many of its top 5 selections. Two of our top 5 defender selections for gameweek 26 made the Fantasy Premier League team of the week: Seamus Coleman and Gareth McAuley. Can we get it right when it comes to FPL gameweek 27 defenders? Fingers crossed.

Seamus Coleman – Everton

Games: 23; Clean sheets: 8; Total FPL points: 120

Coleman turned in a 12 point performance against Sunderland as he tallied an assist in Everton’s clean sheet win. Ahead of the Toffees’ fixture with Sunderland, we said go heavy on Everton players. Ignore that this week for your daily fantasy sports team or FPL side. Everton play Tottenham in gameweek 27.

Coleman is a great option as one of your FPL gameweek 27 defenders, but stop there in defence with Everton players.

Gareth McAuley – West Brom Albion

Games: 26; Clean sheets: 5; Total FPL points: 108

When you find a hidden gem, it is hard to stop picking him for your fantasy team. McAuley is one such player that is hard to drop. The centre-back made the team of the week  on the back of a 10 point defensive performance.

Up next is Crystal Palace, and McAuley makes a great addition to your FPL gameweek 27 defenders.

Marcos Alonso – Chelsea

Games: 19; Clean sheets: 12; Total FPL points: 124

Chelsea’s defence has struggled in the Premier League in recent weeks. The Blues haven’t kept a clean sheet since gameweek 22.

Marcos Alonso missed out on this fixture earlier this season, and the full-back is due for a big match.

Chelsea have the potential for big points returns in the next few weeks, and we think Alonso is a solid FPL gameweek 27 defenders choice.

Patrick van Aanholt – Crystal Palace

Games: 25; Clean sheets: 4; Total FPL points: 82

Inconsistency has kept Patrick van Aanholt out of our regular top 5 all FPL season. The Dutch international’s 15 point return made him the top defender last week, and if you decide McAuley isn’t the best option for your fantasy team, perhaps Van Aanholt is.

Kyle Walker – Tottenham

Games: 25; Clean sheets: 12; Total FPL points: 124

Tottenham and Everton were the only two Premier League sides to keep clean sheets in gameweek 26. Unfortunately, those two defences will tangle this weekend. If Walker has been in your DFS or FPL side all season, he is still perfect for your team.

Walker has been consistent with six point returns each week, and if you favour him over Coleman as one of your FPL gameweek 27 defenders, it is completely understandable.

Bonus goalkeeper

David De Gea – Manchester United

Games: 26; Clean sheets: 10; Total FPL points: 94

David De Gea spent last weekend winning the EFL Cup, and Manchester United are in fantastic form. De Gea has kept three straight Premier League clean sheets and at £5.4, the Spaniard is a great choice to back your FPL gameweek 27 defenders.

Manchester United are in the midst of a great run of matches that should all be won. De Gea could catch goalkeeping points front runner Tom Heaton by the end of the season.
