FPL Gameweek 37 – Defenders for Fantasy Managers

Fantasy Premier League is just about finished for the season, but there are a few more gameweeks to eek out the points. FPL Gameweek 37 will be headlined by title chasing Tottenham’s clash with Manchester United. Unfortunately, Spurs’ title attempt took a hit last weekend.

Chelsea are just one win from the Premier League trophy, and it wouldn’t be our defenders list without at least one Blues’ defender in our top 5.

FPL gameweek 37 top 5 defenders

Marcos Alonso – Chelsea

Total FPL points: 167; GW 36: 14 points

Marcos Alonso continues to go from strength to strength. Gameweek 36’s 14 point haul was his highest total in 15 gameweeks. However, he has continued to be consistent this term and his potential against West Brom in the next round of fixtures is high.

Nicolas Otamendi – Manchester City

Total FPL points: 90; GW 36: 14 points

Nicolas Otamendi and Manchester City’s defence has been a disappointment this season. Gameweek 36 was Otamendi’s only double-digit return this season as City throttled Crystal Palace, 5-0.

Otamendi is worth consideration for FPL gameweek 37 as Manchester City clash with Leicester. The easy road to the end of the term doesn’t stop there as City play West Ham and Watford to round out the year.

Cesar Azpilicueta – Chelsea

Total FPL points: 148; GW 36: 10 points

If Alonso isn’t your cup of tea, or you have already drafted him, then Cesar Azpilicueta may be an alternative. He will cost you just a little less than Alonso, but he will gain you the points at the back. Not the same scoring threat as Alonso, Azpilicueta is still a solid defender that will get your team clean sheet points.

Nathaniel Clyne – Liverpool

Total FPL points: 116; GW 36: 6 points

Nathaniel Clyne makes a return to our top 5 for FPL gameweek 37 after a six point match against Southampton. The Reds face off with West Ham at the weekend and close out with Middlesbrough. Just £5.8 gets managers the Liverpool full-back in their defence.

Christian Fuchs – Leicester

Total FPL points: 103; GW 35: 8 points

Back-to-back eight point performances by Christian Fuchs haven’t gone unnoticed and I suggested FPL managers get the Leicester man in their teams a week ago. He came through big and he gets on my list for FPL gameweek 37 for another go-round.

The problem is Leciester’s fixture list isn’t easy as the team face Manchester City this weekend. Leicester did brutalise City the last time out, 4-2, so it could happen again. Just £5.3, Fuchs could be a great choice this weekend.

Goalkeeper

Petr Cech – Arsenal

Total FPL points: 113; GW 35: 8 points

Arsenal play midweek and at the weekend in gameweek 37, and Petr Cech is coming off of a positive eight point match against Manchester United. Arsenal face off with Southampton, Stoke, Sunderland and Everton to close the season, giving FPL managers four more matches to gain points.
