Liverpool destined to draw Barcelona and RB Leipzig in UEFA ‘Transfer’ League draw

Congratulations to Liverpool on their fantastic victory over Hoffenheim this evening at Anfield. Two goals from Emre Can and one each for Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino has returned the Reds to the top table of European football, in a 6-3 aggregate win over the German side.

The draw for the group stage of the UEFA Champions League will take place tomorrow at 4.30pm and while it might seem statistically unlikely, there remains the chance that Liverpool could be paired with two clubs who they have been linked too throughout a summer of transfer speculation.

Draw Pots

Pot 1: Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Juventus, Benfica, Monaco, Spartak Moscow, Shakhtar Donetsk

Pot 2: Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund, Sevilla, Man City, Porto, Man United

Pot 3: Napoli, Tottenham, Basel, Olympiakos, Anderlecht, Liverpool, Roma, Besiktas

Pot 4: Celtic, CSKA Moscow, APOEL, Feyenoord, Sporting CP, Maribor, Qarabag, RB Leipzig

Barcelona, who continue to be linked with Phillipe Coutinho are in Pot 2, while Red Bull Leipzig, Naby Keita’s club, sit in Pot 4. Either transfer might, or might not, still occur ensuring any UCL pairing will be hyped to the limit.

We’re not sure we can handle another two months of inter club discussion surrounding these three, so fingers crossed that they don’t get paired. No matter who Liverpool get, they will be guaranteed a difficult group. Remember also, that Liverpool cannot be drawn against another English club at this stage. Best case for the Reds in tomorrow’s draw would probably involve the following:-

Spartek Moscow

The opening group fixtures will take place in the second week of September.
