Arsenal to fight it out with London rivals to land international superstar

Arsenal are prepared to go to war with Chelsea as they look to make an audacious approach to Bayern Munch to bring German international Thomas Muller to the Emirates Stadium.

Muller, still only 28, has recently lost his starting spot in the Bayern Munich side to Thiago Alcantara as support to Robert Lewandowski. He was used sparingly by Carlo Ancelotti last season and Muller is conscious that he needs to be in the spotlight to secure his place in the Germany squad for the 2018 World Cup.

Arsenal are extremely interested in securing the services of Muller, especially with Alexis Sanchez’s future still under huge doubt, having lost Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and missing out on Thomas Lemar. Alexandre Lacazette has started brightly, and Wenger clearly sees Muller as an ideal foil for the French striker, with Olivier Giroud still also at the Emirates.

But Arsenal will face stern competition from Chelsea, still smarting from a very disappointing summers transfer activity, and still with injuries and the Diego Costa situation unclear.

Muller is still under contract to the German Bundesliga giants until 2021 and will not come cheap…but both clubs have deep warchests and will be prepared to splash the cash to land a real marquee name that will excite fans of both clubs. Bidding could get messy and may fall to Muller’s preference….and should Bayern be prepared to listen to offer for him, it would not be a surprise to see Manchester United also join the fray.

Certainly this is a situation that could get very interesting very quickly!!
