Manchester United : Dream move for star finally over.

One of the longest running transfer sagas across the summer has been the ‘will he, wont he’ drama surrounding Ivan Perisic’s move from Inter Milan to Manchester United.

However, and as reported by ESPN, that door was closed before the transfer window slammed shut, as Inter Milan persuaded the Croatian winger to remain at the San Siro with Inter until 2020, and his new contract does NOT have a release clause in it.

Perisic was convinced by Inter officials that they could be as ambitious as United and deliver for him the titles and medals he craves – and this seems to have paid dividends, as not only did it convince Perisic to stay at Inter, but he has been in superb form on the pitch for them in the new Serie A season – scoring 3 goals and 3 assists in their first five games, making them league leaders at this early stage of the season.

United fans will be disappointed they couldn’t capture Perisic, who has undoubted quality, but the sting of this transfer failure will be lessened by United’s own fine start to the 2017/18 campaign, as they are joint leaders of the Premier League with rivals Manchester City, gained a comfortable passage through to the Champions League league stages, and tonight face Championship minnows Burton Albion at home in the Carabao Cup third round.

They will, however, keep their eye on the situation surrounding Thomas Lemar, who remains a distinct possibility to leave Monaco for pastures new, as well as the tenuous links that see Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo still possibly moving to Old Trafford from Real Madrid.

One thing is for certain with Manchester United – they may not get every player they set their sights on, but they are never short of options when they do miss out.
