Everton set to boost attacking corps by signing Madrid star

Everton are lining up a January swoop for Atletico Madrid striker Kevin Gameiro, as they look to finally replace Romelu Lukaku and bolster their severely weakened front line.

French international Gameiro, 30, is likely to be considered surplus to requirements at Madrid now they have finally agreed terms to bring Chelsea’s Diego Costa back to Spain – and he will slot straight in to the Atletico starting XI.

Atletico paid Sevilla £35 million last season and he has delivered on that hefty price tag – weighing in with an impressive 16 goals and 7 assists from 42 total appearances for ‘Los Colchoneros’. But with Madrid having committed to Diego Costa, Gameiro is likely to be making way.

Everton have wasted no time in declaring their interest for the player, looking to get a deal in place to ward off other potential suitors – though whether this is an outright purchase or long term loan remains to be seen.

With Everton having struggled in front of goal so far this season, fans of the Goodison Road outfit will be hoping that they can secure the services of a proven striker which, as long as they aren’t too far off the pace come the New Year, will surely help the Toffees finish strong as they look to crack the top six and continue the promise and progression shown under boss Ronald Koeman.
