Arsenal to offer Jack Wilshere new contract

Arsenal are ready to offer Jack Wilshere a new contract at the club. The 26-year-old midfielder has played his way back into Arsene Wenger’s plans at Arsenal after the manager attempted to sell him during the summer transfer window.

Wilshere’s current contract ends in July 2018, and it was originally expected the midfielder would be allowed to leave on a free transfer. However, due to his improved form and fitness this term, Wilshere has earned a new deal at the Emirates Stadium.

The Mirror reports Wilshere will meet with Arsenal executives next week to iron out a new deal. Despite a new contract being offered, Wilshere may have to take a reduction in wages to stay at Arsenal. He came through the club’s academy, and when offered a chance to leave last summer, Wilshere preferred to stay and fight for his place. The Englishman earns around £120,000-a-week. That figure could be reduced greatly, if he is to stay with the team.

It is reported that Arsenal will include numerous incentives and bonuses to Wilshere’s new contract. The idea is to pay him based on performance. The midfielder’s injury record has meant the team has paid him large sums to sit on the sidelines during the season. Wilshere’s injury record has improved this term, and the player is yet to be sidelined with an injury.

His new deal could see him earn a base salary of £90,000-a-week. Wilshere has appeared in 11 Premier League matches this term notching one goal and two assists.

Fantasy impact – Jack Wilshere

In terms of Fantasy Premier League, Jack Wilshere has done very little. At £5.4, the midfielder has only scored 29 points this term. He did put together an eight point performance against Chelsea, but that was due to him scoring his first goal of the season. Unless he catches fire, Wilshere isn’t worth the £5.4 fee.
