Watford’s Gerard Deulofeu can be Fantasy Premier League saviour

Watford’s Gerard Deulofeu brilliantly took Chelsea to task on Monday night. The Spaniard tallied 13 points as he made the Fantasy Premier League team of the week. It was his second match back in the Premier League after signing for Watford during the January transfer window. Now with a set of winnable fixtures for Watford upcoming, Deulofeu is the man to make up for those lost points thanks to Philippe Coutinho’s departure from the league.

Gerard Deulofeu at Watford

There is no doubt that Deulofeu is a strange player. He arrived at Everton from Barcelona and played excellent attacking football. But the honeymoon didn’t last long and Deulofeu was loaned out after the good times at Goodison Park petered out.

The Spaniard joined AC Milan, and like at Everton, he excelled early on. However, just like in his first go-round in the Premier League, Deulofeu’s form didn’t last. He returned to Barcelona at the beginning of the season and made just 10 appearances, scoring one goal. He has already equalled his Barcelona tally after two games with Watford.

Deulofeu has shown he is a great starter when joining a club. It is just the consistency over the long-term that he lacks. Watford will play West Ham, Everton and West Brom over the next three matchdays. All three are winnable games for the Hornets.

Watford has quality players in the team. Richarlison, Andre Gray and Abdoulaye Doucoure have been good FPL performers this term. The quartet have the potential to be a Watford version of Liverpool. Obviously, it isn’t the same, but it is a midtable version of the Reds.

Deulofeu seems to wear out his welcome wherever he goes. Whether he will do the same at Watford is anyone’s guess. But the way he starts at a new club, FPL managers should jump on Gerard Deulofeu while he is hot.
