Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 14 Top Defenders

premier league, fantasy football, fpl, fantasy sports

Fantasy Premier League gameweek 14 will see Manchester City host Chelsea, and several top FPL defenders will be in action. The top of the table clash should influence FPL managers in their defender selection.

In other FPL defender news, it is West Brom Albion’s Gareth McAuley who continues his rise up the Fantasy Premier League defenders point list. The West Brom defender is averaging 5.2 Fantasy Premier League points in his last five matches.

Who joins McAuley in this week’s FantasySports.co.uk Fantasy Premier League gameweek 14 top defenders list?

Gareth McAuley – West Brom Albion

Games: 13; Goals: 3; Clean sheets: 3; Total FPL points: 55

McAuley is still a cheap Fantasy Premier League gameweek 14 buy at only £4.8 million. In gameweek 13, McAuley tallied the most points of any defender in the Fantasy Premier League top 10 defenders list.

He is a brilliant pick for Fantasy Premier League gameweek 14 as West Brom play Watford.

Joel Matip – Liverpool

Games: 11; Clean sheets: 3; Total FPL points: 39

Sure, Joel Matip only has 39 Fantasy Premier League points, but the Liverpool centre-back has been consistent lately.

Another six point performance in gameweek 13 proved FantasySports.co.uk’s selection right.

Coming off another clean sheet, Matip and company should do well against a Bournemouth side that have lost three out of four matches.

Virgil van Dijk – Southampton

Games: 13; Clean sheets: 5; Total FPL points: 45

Back-to-back clean sheets gets Virgil van Dijk back in the Fantasy Premier League top five defenders chart. Van Dijk has gained seven points in each of the last two weeks.

Facing Crystal Palace on Saturday could see Van Dijk and company get their sixth clean sheet of the season.

With Alan Pardew’s Palace struggling, Southampton should continue their assault on the top half of the Premier League table.

Nacho Monreal – Arsenal

Games: 12; Clean sheets: 4; Total FPL points: 43

Nacho Monreal was another of gameweek 13’s big defensive performers as the full-back tallied five FPL points. For Fantasy Premier League gameweek 14, Arsenal clash with West Ham.

The Struggling Hammers have scored just 14 goals this term, which gives FPL managers hope that Arsenal’s defenders can gain another clean sheet.

Monreal may not score many goals (zero) or assists (one), but he contributes in other ways. His £5.9m price tag will put plenty of Fantasy Premier League gameweek 14 managers off from transferring him in to the side.

However, with the Gunners’ upcoming run of games, it isn’t a terrible idea to buy him now.

Cesar Azpilicueta – Chelsea

Games: 13; Clean sheets: 7; Total FPL points: 58

Despite Chelsea having Marcos Alonso and Gary Cahill in the top six FPL defenders list currently, Cesar Azpilicueta is the only one to make this week’s list for Fantasy Premier League gameweek 14.

Although he only scored two FPL points against Tottenham, the Spaniard did receive WhoScored.com’s highest rating for the Blues’ defenders.

This weekend Chelsea battle Manchester City, which is another reason only one Chelsea defender makes the list. Thanks to his excellent rating last weekend, Azpilicueta just edges it for Fantasy Premier League gameweek 14.

Bonus goalkeeper:

Fraser Foster – Southampton

Games: 13; Clean sheets: 5; Saves: 18; Total FPL points: 43

Fraser Foster has tailed six points in back-to-back weeks of FPL action. The Saints’ goalkeeper is a distant fifth behind some excellent Premier League goalkeepers, but with more performance like last weekend’s and he will be closer to the top spot.

Southampton take on Crystal Palace, and like his teammate Van Dijk, Foster is worthy of a place in your Fantasy Premier League gameweek 14 side.

With a set of winnable fixtures until the end of December, Southampton could be knocking on the door of the top six before long.
